The Incomplete (DRAFT)

GEORGE COLEMAN JAZZ DISCOGRAPHY

By Steve Schwerner

December 2004

[annotations/revisions by M. Fitzgerald - June 22, 2000]

This discography is a living document and therefore still incomplete.  There are obvious holes in the document thus far that need filling; there are undoubtedly  records, CDs and video tape that have been recorded that I have not yet found.  Most importantly, it is the authorfs hope that numerous  albums by and/or featuring George Coleman are yet to be made.

I owe a number of people a debt of thanks.  Mike Fitzgerald has helped me more than anyone has any right to expect.  This document could not have been finished without his help.  Alan Saul who had compiled a discography of the great trumpet master Booker Little has given me a great deal of help along with much encouragement.  Ned Otter has also encouraged me and kindly shared some of his personal material.  My wife Nancy has been my editor for over 40 years—I canft write without her.  And her patience is beyond measure.

Finally, it is the brilliant music created by George Coleman that inspired this project.  It is my opinion that Mr. Coleman is one of the great masters of the saxophone and deserves far more recognition than the public has given him thus far as many musicians know.  The hundreds of hours I have spent listening to him in person and on recordings were and are some of the richest on my life.

Comments, additions, and/or corrections are greatly appreciated.  Please send to:
